Hardware

Hardware is the physical components of a computer system or device. Several essential computer hardware types are critical to AMC Theatres' operations. The POS system, which aids with sales, and the projection system, which shows high-quality films, are examples of computer gear utilized by AMC. Because it keeps track of inventories and generates detailed sales reports for analysis and decision-making, the point-of-sale system may also be classified as storage hardware.  Although effective, there can always be room for improvement. For example, the POS system can handle high volumes of transactions while storing important data; however, there may be times when the system lags during peak times, such as when new movie releases are released. This can be improved by investing in quicker, cloud-integrated systems. This will help improve performance and scalability under intense loads.

 

Software

Instead of the physical components, software is referred to as the programs and operating systems that run on hardware, enabling it to perform specific tasks. At AMC software plays a vital role in the enhancement of customer experience and supporting operations. AMC uses software such as Windows OS, which aids in running the POS system and projection system. The POS system uses Windows to process transactions, manage inventory, and generate sales reports, while the projection system uses it to control the playback of high-quality digital movie files. An operating system (OS) is an essential piece of software that manages a computer's or other device's hardware and software resources. It acts as a mediator between the user, application software, and a device's hardware. It would be difficult for us to make effective use of the majority of our gear without an operating system. AMC uses Mobile OS, like iOS and Android, which supports the AMC mobile app on customers' devices.The software offers a smooth user experience and is widely accessible due to its interaction with mobile operating systems. AMC uses these operating systems as a foundation for their application software, such as the mobile app, which provides convenience and creates customer engagement. 

Application Software 

Application software is software that performs specific services or functions. A vertical application that AMC uses is called a Digital Signage System, by Dell, which is used to display showtimes, trailers, and promotions within theaters. A horizontal application that they use would be Workforce, which aids in scheduling employees and tracking labor cost. Lastly, a customized application that is used would be their mobile app. The app is used for ticket purchasing, seat selection, loyalty rewards, and concession ordering. 

New technologies

AMC Theatres can embrace new technologies to help improve customer experiences and operational efficiencies. Artificial intelligence could offer personalized film suggestions, modernize the ticket purchasing process with chatbots, and analyze consumer trends. Virtual/Augmented Reality allows for immersive pre-movie experiences, such as virtual tours of movie sets or interactive games tied in with the film. Blockchain provides security in ticketing and loyalty programs by preventing fraud and increasing accountability. IoT can optimize operations in theaters, from smart HVAC that adjusts automatically according to occupancy, automated cleaning, to tracking inventory concessions in real time. Robotics may also serve food and drinks at seats or assist guests with directions, while 5G enables live-streamed events or interactive activities like Q&A sessions. Finally, sustainable innovations such as solar power and LED lighting can lessen one's impact on the environment while appealing to greener customers. By adopting one or more of these technologies, AMC will enhance the movie-going experience, capture new audiences, and gain operational efficiencies.

Metadata 

In AMC Theatre's information system, some essential data can be organized in various files and fields. For instance, a Customer Information File might include fields like Customer ID, Name, Email, Membership Status, and Favorite Genres; in turn, a Ticket Sales File could track Transaction ID, Movie Title, Show Date/Time, Seat Number, and Payment Method. The other files may include a file like the Concessions Inventory File, which would have fields such as Product ID, Product Name, Stock Level, and Supplier. The Employee Scheduling File would have fields such as Employee ID, Role, Shift Date/Time, and Hours Worked. Metadata is descriptive text about the files above; an example for the metadata of a movie file may include title, genre, runtime, format, release date, and director. This metadata serves to organize, retrieve, and manage content within the system with ease.

DBMS

A Database Management System (DBMS) is software that allows the organization, storage, and retrieval of data from databases. AMC Theatres utilizes Oracle Database as its primary DBMS. Oracle Database is a powerful, scalable relational database management system widely recognized for its ability to handle large volumes of transactional data efficiently. Dashboard: A user-friendly interface displaying database performance metrics, statistics, and alerts.An example of how Oracle Database is deployed at AMC can be seen in its implementation of Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP, which enhances various business functions, including procurement and expense management. This ERP integration not only streamlines AMC's processes but also supports real-time analytics and reporting, significantly benefiting the organization's operational efficiency. Additionally, Oracle Database facilitates automated backup and recovery processes, ensuring data availability and consistency even in the event of system failures. 

Database Applications

Database applications are software programs that interact with a database and allow users to create, read, update, and delete data. They are designed to facilitate various business functions and can be tailored to meet specific requirements across different industries. The applications can range from simple data entry forms to complex systems that perform sophisticated data analysis and reporting.

New Database Technologies

AMC Theatres can significantly enhance its operations by adopting new database technologies. Cloud-based databases offer scalability and flexibility for managing large volumes of customer and transaction data, enabling real-time analytics to meet changing demands during peak times like new movie releases. NoSQL databases efficiently handle diverse data types, facilitating personalized marketing strategies and improving customer engagement through targeted promotions. Additionally, in-memory databases enhance transaction processing speed, reducing customer wait times and improving the overall experience at theaters. Lastly, graph databases provide insights into customer relationships, informing effective marketing campaigns and loyalty initiatives. ​By integrating these technologies, AMC can improve operational efficiency and deliver a personalized experience, ultimately driving sales and fostering customer loyalty.

LAN

LAN, an abbreviation for Local Area Network, local area network (LAN) connects computers at a single physical site (Kroenke and Boyle, 2021, p. 214). Its components include devices such as printers, servers, computers, routers, and access points. Like many large organizations, AMC Theatres utilize Local Area Networks to support internal operations.AMC uses LAN through ethernet and WiFi, allowing moviegoers to connect to guest wifi provided by an external provider. These networks facilitate communication between computers and devices within their theatres, enabling efficient management of ticketing systems, movie projection, and concession operations. AMC’s use of LANs ensures seamless and secure internal communications.

Internet

The Internet is a worldwide system of interconnected computer networks that exchange information and communicate with each other. AMC connects to the Internet through partnerships with internet service providers that combine wired and wireless connections. AMC Theatre's domain name is amctheatres.com. 

Cloud

The Cloud is the elastic leasing of pooled computer resources over the Internet (Kroenke and Boyle, 2021, p. 203).It is essential because it offers accessibility and cost-effectiveness, allowing businesses to adjust resources. The cloud enhances reliability through backups, and disaster recovery improves efficiency with automatic updates. It has become essential for professional and personal use, supporting everything from streaming services to critical business operations. 

Iaas, Paas, and Saas

Our company will most likely use the cloud. We use a lot of information to store different customers information such as booking a seat either in person or through mobile terms. We also offer marketing and loyalty programs that need strong software. IaaS is the cloud hosting of a bare server computer, data storage, network, and virtualization. PaaS  host computers with an operating system like web server or a dbms, This leads me to conclude SaaS plays an important role in services that keeps amc together. Payments, reservations, and big show times need the proper cloud based service that allows amc to run smoothly. Saas not only provides hardware infrastructure and operating systems, but programs and applications too. To improve Amc service we can use PaaS as well, and here's why. If Amc decides to create custom applications like ticketing or ordering systems, by using platforms as a service this can build and release applications without having to manage the increasing improvements. 

Company Networks

Issues that our company might face are cybersecurity threats. Our company is one of the most popular streaming locations that are constantly under attack for our prospering software and marketing skills. Data breaches may occur as well with customer information and accounts if the networks are not well secured. Another issue may be high traffic, Amc is constantly circulating a lot of data not only from the consumers, but as well as the customers that share their movies through Amc. Some recommendations I can make are improving the application software so that customers can run the app smoothly and market Amc stubs more often. We can also improve the blockchain to hold customers information more efficiently making a good representation of our company.
